Hi guys this is a story I wrote about a gil from revolutionary war times read on if you like the sounds of it.

I woke up again to the sound of gunshot and cannon fire. Yes its a rough waking but its my alarm clock for me to fetch the eggs and milk. I heard my mother call up to me in my loft of the quaint cottage, “Rosy have you gotten the eggs yet I need to make breakfast?” “No Ma I’m heading out now.” I got ready and ran downstairs with the special straw basket Ma wove for the eggs to sit in. I ran outside to the hen house and when they weren’t looking and snathced up the eggs and ran for the house shutting the hen house door on my way out. I left the eggs on the table and ran for the barn. When I got to the barn I grabbed my stool and bucket and ran up to Sarah my pet cow. I milked a whole bucket of milk and carried the heavy bucket to the river to keep it cold. I crept back to the house for breakfast and heard Ma crying I peeped from behind the door careful not to let Ma see me. She was saying to Pa that we didn’t have enough money to pay the taxes for food. Pa said, “Don’t worry about it Stacy we’ll be just fine once the war is over but for now we will only eat what we grow.” I walked in and Ma wiped her face and Pa straitened up. Gently Pa told me, “Look Rosy we don’t have the money to buy food any more we will only be able to eat what we have here on the farm OK?” I looked back in shock for their sake since I had already heard this. Ma and Pa told me that everything would be OK and that as soon as the war was over and the taxes were gone we would buy as much food as we wanted. After that Pa grabbed his briefcase and set out to find a job or at least sell some apples. Ma said we would go out to town to see if there were any toys cheap enough for my birthday that’s today. I totaly forgot about it because I was so busy doing the chores. Ma got into her nice clothes and cleaned me up with the wash rag and I put on my nice dress that I hated from the scratchiness. We headed out for town in the wagon. Once we got there I grabbed Mas’ hand and yanked her to the toy shop. I was immediately filled with joy and wonder from all of the toys and trinkets and candy which I had never had at the front. I wandered over to the new stuffed bear dolls and looked at the price tag Geez it cost 5.00 dollars and I knew I wouldn’t be able to get it. Disappointedly I walked over to the candy shelf and I looked at a small chocolate cake and its price .50 cents maybe Ma would get that for me. I went over to ask Ma and she came over to look at it and she decided that it was cheap enough to buy for my birth day. She took it to the counter and we bought the small chocolaty cake. Though I was disappointed that I could not have the large stuffed bear I was still excited that I had received the small cake it was my first piece of candy I had ever had. As we walked down the road a few of my friends said, “Happy 12 th birthday!” I would thank them and keep walking. After walking around for awhile we bought a large book titled The Book Of Everything It cost us 2.00 dollars and we went home to play and put our new things away. Once we were settled in I pulled out my old stuffed teddy and his friend my stuffed rabbit. Later that day when Ma was going out to get a rooster for diner Pa came in with a large grin on his face. He ran over to me and swung me over his shoulder and laughed hysterically. Ma came in and chuckled, “And what's all this about dear?” with one last swing he put me down and told Ma, “I got hired at the newspaper and I’ll get payed 5.00 dollars an hour!” He swooned Ma and kissed her right on the mouth and I though Wait now we have enough for the bear! I straightened my posture and asked in my most serious voice, “Ma when we were at the store I first looked at a big stuffed bear that was 5.00 dollars do you think we could get it now that Pa has a job?” Ma and Pa looked at eachother and told me in unison, “Yes” After that the gunshots seemed to quiet and I had a feeling everything was gonna get a lot better.
